Fresh Mushroom and Possible Contamination

I have some fresh mushrooms I just harvested a few days ago. They are in the fridge wrapped up in paper towels right now. Most of them look fine but one of them has a sort of greenish blue color on the stem. I don't know if it is mold or bruising or what.

Do picked mushrooms commonly get contaminated with mold? How can I tell?

If it wasn't contaminated when picked and it was dried properly then its probably just bruising. If its growing green fur then its mold.

Sounds like bruising to me- but you should really dry those out. They are food, like most food mold can grow on mushrooms. If its growing, its mold- if it looks like its in the spots where your hands touched your fruit during harvest, its probably bruising.

I've been looking at it more closely and it looks like bruising. That particular mushroom was squashed around a bit and it looks to be under the skin - not growing on top of it.

If I have any doubt I will certainly through it out though.

have you ever seen bread mold? it will look like that if it is truly growing mold
