I was looking at my weilii photos just the other day dreaming about the beginning of the season. Phish - what's the absolute earliest you've ever found one?

Indeed Red Crayon. In no small part thanks to the shit that went down here last fall, plus a web site that did nothing but raise negative attention, we weilii hunters need to be a lot more careful. Luckily their habitat is likely spreading into places that are not quite so hot. Otherwise, dress nicely, have an alibi, don't be greedy, impolite or stupid.
CureCat, I guess there could be a resemblance, somewhat closely related genera and all that. But you can see the bluing in that pic pretty clearly. And the very next picture on my post is that same exact mushroom that I'm holding in my hand.

Yeah, just that gill shot. Aside from the bluing, it reminds me of a sulfur tuft. I can tell the difference of course, it just reminds me of one.
Yeah, we can thank ihaveacow for that mess.

Psilocybe weilii is the finest Psilocybian mushroom in the southeastern United States, and perhaps the world. They can be very potent.

I agree, they put even extra magic into the world of magic mushrooms. Simply mind-bogglingly amazing. I can't wait, morel season, then a short wait for weilii season.

what did homeboy do?
its been a couple of years since i've been out there and actually gotten my shoes dirty, but i sure to miss stumbling upon a couple of fresh patches looking you straight in the eye... one hell of a good feeling i might add.
in 03' a couple of my patches unfortunately had some attention as well. i've also known of 2 people to get arrested after finding a healthy bags worth. the neighborhoods definitely dont appreciate kids stomping around and the LEO's in the area could use some more crime to fight. keep your head up, if you know what you're looking for you'll eventually find weilii in places out of the public eye.

Yep - finding patches off private property is key. We need people to be especially good about posting their non-neighborhood finds including types of trees, pinestraw or grass etc. etc.
