Yeah. I'm going to keep trying. I just wish I could finally get this down. I was hopeful that I had finally succeeded. But after waiting for a month and growing more flies than mushies, I figure that those cakes are going to be a lost cause down there. It's a bummer.

I let my rye soak for 36 hours and it is soft now. I am following the tek that blutjager promotes heavily. Is it ok to simmer since it is soft? Should I use new water for the simmering part or just the water they were soaked in?

Hell yeah!
I can see Blutjager chiming in with a big  right now! LOL
However, in all reality, AFOAF used equal amounts of PF tek jars to case with coir, and another casing of equal amounts of rye with coir.
(Approximately 1:1 ratio)
The BRF tray is maybe at 1/4 colonization since 01/25 the rye tray is almost nearly colonized (with 3 days left to go to the 10 day mark).
SO...here is my OWN for RYE.
However, I'll never give the PF tek the  , sorry Blut'.

When I cut my tyvek, do I want to cut it bigger than I need it or exactly the size of the top of the jar?

My friend about gave up on shrooms because she thought they were all contaminated. Turns out both strains, totalling ~40 pints, is fully colonized and ready for spawning. Time for poo shoveling.
When growing portabellas, I cut my tyvek the same size as the lid if I have time. When I'm lazy, slightly bigger squares.

Yup, workes either way. The perfect cut ones are just visually more appealing. They are also good for glueing to the inside of the ring so that you have a PC'able, breathable, jar for print-making and VERY ez syringe making that is virtually fool-proof (especially with a glovebox).

Use Agar's fingernail test: if can split the grain with your thumbnail then you may not need to simmer. I would still simmer (in fresh water) until the first few grains begin to open.

O and as far as the size of the tyvek as long as you cover your holes your fine,I have seen agar just cut little squares and tape them there with micopore,I usually just tape big squares and use the lid band to hold them down
