Did my godforsaken radiator scorch my jars?
    #6510298 - 01/29/07 09:58 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

hey fellahs and ladies,

My incubating jars have been hanging out near my radiator in a dark cardboard box and after a week there has been some good mycelium growth. However, just tonight it appears that Beelzebub possessed my radiator as it began belching hot water and making sounds that I can only describe as demonic. More to the point, the radiator got much hotter than I've ever noticed it before and when I checked on my jars they were pretty hot (felt about 95º-100º to the touch) and were probably at that temperature for about 15 minutes. I read that over 95º kills mycelium... do you think that my jars have bit the dust? How can you tell when this has happened?

They may be OK,I have caught my tub in tub at 98 degrees(Thats why I incubate at room temperature now)and still had some of the jars survive, some did not,I don't know of a sure fire way of telling by just looking at them.I say don't give up and scrap them yet, just keep and eye on them and see how they progress, good luck
