yeah... well heres the deal.
i need about $3000
i have about $250
Im going to go to the casino and put my $250 on hard 10 (2 5's ) on the craps table, if i win, ill get $1750 (enough to get me back on track)
If i loose there is a job waiting for me on the west coast, working long hard hours every day, all day.
the odds are stacked against me, but either way in a months time ill be where i need to be physically, financially, and mentally. same destination, different paths...
This should be interesting
I probably wont head out there till tomorrow, but ill let yall know how it goes.

booo! at least play a little, all on one hand is a sure loss - try and space it out and you got a chance.

Sit at a 3-6 limit poker table... Only play top level hands. It's boring, but odds are if you sit there long enough, your AA, KK and AKs will win or your raises will make everyone fold. If you hit something early, open up to QQ.
$250 should get you a few hours... just be ready to watch a lot of TV while waiting for your hands.

$250 should last you a couple days at a poker table if you know what you're doing...
go to vegas.. go to the luxor, play at the $50 buy in no-limit table.. re-buy after the first hand.. you've just spend $100.. you should be able to play all night on that...
last time i went i had $150.. i won $550 the first night.. placed 6th in a tournament the next day for $660... and just kept playing w/ $100 a night for 5 days.. i left the week up about $2k.

He was about to drop $250 on a hard 10... I was assuming he DIDN'T know what he was doing at a poker table.

That sucks!
I think your odds are better with a strategic single roulette bet.
If there are TWO greens (0 and 00) then you should not play.
Your odds are best if you reduce the number of bets to a minimum, but all casino games are rigged and you know it. Whatever happens, take it as a life experience. If you win, play it cool to yourself.

you'd really probably have a better chance buying $250 in $1 scratch offs...

the first one i ever bought won me twenty bucks.
so i spent the next few weeks buying them and losing about 30-40 dollars. at which point i stopped getting them.
nomad...if you do happen to win the 1700 dollars go out and buy 1700 powerball tickets. somebody has to win...

it's a terrible decision...
but considering that roulette and craps are two of the lowest ranking casino games as far as player edge.. $250 in scratch offs will give you *something* back.. a single bet probably won't.

Set aside a good 8-10hrs and play blackjack via this method:
Quote:
Winning is easy. No counting needed. 1. Play the basic strategy, blackjackinfo.com has a good engine to show you what it is. Nicely colored table. 2. Betting method. This is how you win. Depending on the table, you are either using $5, $25, or $100 dollar chips as your base. So lets use the $5 chip on a $15 minimum table as the example. Your starting bet is $15. You used 3 chips for this. If you lose, you stay at $15, if you push you stay at $15. Every loss you return to the base of $15, so 3 chips up after every loss or push. If you win, you add one more $5 chip. Every win gets another chip: 1 win = 4 chips 2 wins = 5 chps 3 wins = 6 chips And so on... Blackjack is a game of streaks, ups and downs. You could have 10 losses in a row or 10 wins in a row. This betting method makes it very simple. Every losing streak (of which there will be many) you are only losing the table minumum. Every winning streak you are pulling back more and more and more. After 1 good winning streak on 1 good shoe you should be up a little. Always leave the table up. And always set a limit when you sit at the table, like so, "this table, i want to turn the $1000 im sitting with, into $1300." When you hit $1300, stand up, go get a snack, walk around, some excersise is good. Go to another table and repeat.
It doesnt get much simpler than this, and that car sitting in the parking lot that I got after last weekend, is good enough proof to me...

meh, really... im no good at gambling, playing anything over a long amount of time is a waste, as i have an anxiety problem and am no good at poker.
really, im going to take the job, either way, but this is a last ditch effort which might allow me a week or 2 more before i leave for the west coast so i can attend the gathering.
There is money set aside for my travel out west allready, its part of the whole job deal, plus i still have my normal job, ill probably head out tomorrow and give this a shot, we shall see how it goes, probably not too well, but what the hell.... its a chance.

go for the scratch offs.. you'll at least get enough money back to buy a beer to help you feel a little better about losing $200+ doing something totally crazy.
