Mutations
    #6492918 - 01/24/07 02:23 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

Well first I would like to ask if you could tell me what might have caused these mutations. veil opening early, caps tipping to the side with open veil at early stage, gills on top of cap, and what seems like a universal veil on the last picture(there were two of these).
Second I would like to ask if there is any risk with consumption of the mutated mushies.
And serioulsy WTF is up with the universal veil on the little guy? I would have let it grow, but it became an abort.
There were a couple of days that I was away on a trip and the pins were very dehidrated when I returned. I had it on an automatic system that I failed at perfecting. All of the mutated mushies are GT strain and are from the same syringe. Other than the couple of days that I was gone there has been a stable envronment for my babies. Including FAE. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Lysol is usually to blame for a majority of mutations, if it was used anywhere in the growing or inoculation process.

Otherwise, you might have just ended up with the genetic runt of the litter....

Oh - I see no pics.

Pictures work for me..

In any case, they are quite cool... maybe something you should print, just to document. Maybe someone would find the prints useful, or just plain cool.

Does anyone have any guesses about the little one?

And does anyone think or know that it is a bad idea to consume mutated mushies?

They're just as good as the rest of your mushies. They're actually not mutated. A mutation can be passed along in genetic code. If you were to isolate those, they would not all grow like that. What you have are deformities, which are somewhat common. Petroleum based products like to make mushrooms grow like that.

Eat those things!

Someone needs to write a screenplay about a guy who turned into a super hero from eating mutagenic mushrooms :hehehe:

Anyway, they are fine to eat,I have had mutants stranger looking than that before and I never even uses Lysol or oust or anything. The only thing I ever use is bleach solution and that is only for spraying down the glovebox as an added precaution before inoculations
