learning to become a certified mechanic.
    #6466568 - 01/16/07 04:24 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

alright.. i know a little bit about cars, enough to do most minor repair work.. but id like to become a certified mechanic.. esp since the military is giving me a G.I bill to further my education..

i would however like to do all of the classes online, that way i could work towards my degree WHILE i serve.

anyone here familiar with any online programs for mechanics?.. or have any suggestions..

i havent really tried google searches yet, i figured id wait and see if anyone here had any advice first.

thanks.

alright, ive done some google and yahoo searching and nothing is really been helpful.. Ive requested information from a couple online schools, but none of them seem to be accepting applications currently.

so at this point any help would be great.

Hmmm. The only time I was ever certified I did it through the company I worked for. They put me through classes then sent me to take the test. But that was almost 10 years ago and my ASE certs have long since expired (I was certified in automotive brakes). But I could still change the fuck out of some brakes without batting an eye!

yeah, like a lot of the classes im seeing are cheap and they are pretty much just courses to prep you for the ASE test...

would that be something worthwhile IYO>?

Yeah, if your goal is just to pass the tests the classes will probably help. Truth is, any good maechanic could probably pass the test without any classes. Its really just common knowledge and common sense when you take the test. Then again, I've always been a strong tester. I can pass most tests I take with a little basic knowledge of the subject. But really it didn't seem like it was that difficult. And you only need something like a 70% to pass.

hmm, im a pretty solid tester as well.. id want to atleast take some basic classes..

then once you pass the ASE, ill be certified and be able to apply as a certified mechanic?

is that really all there is to it? that sounds wayy to easy.
