Stacking Cakes
    #6453584 - 01/12/07 08:01 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone... I was just wondering if to save space, one could stack a 1/2 pint cake on top of another 1/2 pint cake?

Thanks!!

You would probably want to put a damp verm layer between. This might be a very effective setup though, I dont see why you shouldn't try it. You could aways, of course, crumble and case. That would probably get you a bigger yield.

I would just dunk and roll both and then stack. So the verm is already there.

Fahtster has done a lot of double stacked cakes. Here's one of his threads where he give some tips, such as foil between the cakes. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6385183#Post6385183

My friend was actually considering crumbling and casing them... What is the cheapest most effecient way to case them???

Cheaper the better, but if it would ensure a bigger yield than just 13 cakes.... I'm sure my friend would rather do that.

Thanks again guys.

Take it easy

I recommend miracle grow moisture control as a casing layer. Peat and verm, as well as a mixture of both, work too. Just make sure to pasteurize your casing layer, whatever you use.

Crumble your cakes, put 1/4 inch of pasteurized casing over it without mashing any of it down, mist a bit, and incubate until mycelium is poking through evenly.

So for casing with peat/verm do u just bake both together? then add as a casing layer?

not sure if you're asking me, but sure you can bake both together...  Then I'd boil some water, let cool and add as needed to your already pasteurized material.

incubate till you see mycelium, then put a 1/4 inch of casing layer, wait till you see mycelium, then fruit.
