yeah, i would say that if you dont even know that there are "references" already to a particular drug, and where exactly to find those, you shouldnt be jumping into doing any kind of drug that "sounds cool".
specially with that. i would steer away from that till you experiment with everything else. and i havent even done the shit yet.

try to not try datura until you understand it by reading a whole lot about it.
Erowid is actually a good place to start.
Its not going to give you any typical "visuals", or a typical psychedelic "headspace".....
It really is hard on the body, can kill you, and for some is WAY too effective at even tiny doses.
I just remember a picture of a little kid holding up some Brugmansia (Tree Datura) in a book I read. In the caption below it said, "An shaman in training holds up his favorite plant, Brugmansia". I remember thinking, "wow, hes just a little kid". Well apparently he likes it alot, can handle it, and maybe that has to do with the fact that he is just a child in the middle of the south american jungles.

I agree, the fact that so many people have killed themselves on it because of the delerium they get into scares the shit out of me, you'll never find me eating a datura pod.

datura actually has a heavy body load?
can you actually die from the chemicals, or only from killing yourself from the insanity, or hurting yourself by accident?
imagine being a young kid living/running in/through the rainforest all wacked out on psychedelics, let alone datura. man, some people are just really special i guess.

This thread has been closed.
Reason: This topic comes up quite often, do a search for it. Also, check out The Erowid vault on it.
And, as an interesting point, here is what Erowid puts as their 'dosage' advice...
Quote:
As a general rule, Erowid neither recommends nor discourages the use of any psychoactive, however, in the case of tropane alkaloid-containing Solanaceae plants, we think it is important to note that an overwhelming majority of those who describe to us their use of Datura (and to a lesser extent, Belladonna, Brugmansia and Brunfelsia) find their experiences extremely mentally and physically unpleasant and not infrequently physically dangerous.
There is no way to guess a reasonable dose, because potency of the plant material itself and appropriate dose for an individual appear to vary so much. The question of what "reasonable" means for something that so often leads to such ridiculously negative effects is hard to say.
As an admixture plant in some traditional ayahuasca brews, smoking blends, or other preparations, parts of these plants are generally used in very low doses. Because of the serious adverse consequences associated with tropane alkaloids (scopolamine, atropine, hyoscyamine) intoxication and the wide variation in doses used, we are unwilling to even speculate about specific dosages for the leaves, flowers, and seeds of these plants.
If you are considering ingesting Datura-group plants, please read extensively from the collected experience reports and never take them without a reliable, sober sitter who understands the likely health issues and who can stop you from walking in front of traffic. Please note that fatalities from ingesting Datura do occur and hospitalizations seem to be quite common, in spite of the relatively low rates of psychoactive use of these plants.
