Tasmanian Poppies - Question about Genetically Modified Poppies? - UPDATED WITH PICS OF FIELDS

Hello I live in Tasmania, the land of many poppies. The season is coming to end down here, and all the thousands of acres of poppies are beginning to drop their petals. I drive past about 14 fields on my way to work which are like 40 acres each of white poppy heads.
Anyhoo, I was considering this year jumping some fences and scoring the pods, and invited a friend to join me when he told me "I hear TasAlkaloids have genetically modified their crops. They are called 'sanine' poppies or some shit (can't remember the name) where the poppies are bred to produce four times as much opiates as normal poppies or some shit. He said that without a certain chemical procedure, the opium would be deadly, or too strong or some shit... so I thought I would ask you guys for some help on this.
Instead of being dumb and putting myself in danger, I've decided to wait until all the paddocks have dried up (they harvest the poppies when the heads are dry) so I'm just to rip off a few sacks of heads and keep the seeds to grow next year, and until then I can try and learn what is to be done... but no doubt I will have lots of seeds, if anyone would like some..?
PM me. I don't frequent this forum much,

Sounds intriguing... please put me down for some seeds. If i had access to them, i'd want to harvest about two weeks after the petals drop. I find that pods left to set and dry on the stalk to be less potent than freshly picked. Powder your dried pods and start with an amount that you know will do nothing.... like 100mgs, then wait a week and double, keep going until you feel effects, then either stop or add less than double next time ~ if you really think they're that potent.

the tthing is I don't actually know. They harvest them dry because they can and there is fucking millions of them. I never really took notice of them until opium started to intrigue me... then i sort of opened my eyes and was like 'holy fuck my god this is a junkies paradise'
i don't know why people around here aren't all opium freaks... it's so accessbile. They just have signs around the paddocks (they're only those 4-foot cattle fences... nothing tech) that say 'KEEP OUT - ILLEGAL USE OF CROP MAY CAUSE DEATH' etc etc... so yeah, I'll just collect the seeds. It's been about 2 weeks now since the petals have dropped off.... but like I said... I'd rather be safe.

These poppy fields probably belong to pharmaceutical companies, and these poppies are bred to produce thebaine and oripavine alkaloids rather than morphine and codeine. Thebaine is easier for the pharmaceuticals to work with and make painkillers.
I don´t think it would be safe to use these plants other than landscaping perhaps!!!

Most likely, i'm pretty sure Thebaine is used for oxycodone production... awhile back there was an RC vendor selling it. Sounds dangerous

i kinda doubt theyve breeded all the goodies out and theyre unusable. Doesnt the plant need the opiates to survive?

you could simmer some of the dried heads in water on the stove on low heat, then drink it like tea....try just one or two head at first, then move up from there to see if it does anything...

cool thanks for the advice. tonight looks like a prime time to move out and rip a few bags of heads. I'm going to dry a heap and collect a heap of seed so I can do a backyard grow next year, but keep the other half to see if I can do anything with it.
There is still heaps of paddocks out there that are flowering, the ones in the pics are right at their end, I've probably waited nearly too long to do this... but I'll go rip some tonight and post some pics tomorrow

here me out on this... wouldn't they (the owner of the crop)put a sign saying "illegal use of crop may cause death" just to ward off people who know what the feild is full of? Obviously that fence isn't keeping anyone away, and honestly, why would they develop some strain of poppy that would kill a man? Unless, there are some weird chemicals they spray on the poppies? But wouldn't those chemicals be harmful to all the other vegetation, or animals or something? Seems like they just want to put a sign up to keep the adventurless away. I don't see how any trace amounts of these poppies could hurt a man. try a couple heads in tea, see if you get sick? if not, keep harvesting boundless supplies. (if you dont mind stealing from a heartless corporation/company) if they are heartless that is.

I would not be surprised at all if the sign was completely correct, and they contained other chemicals that could very possible kill if used unwisely (not that opiates wouldn't kill you alone used unwisely), or other chemicals along with opiates. Be careful.
And since when does anybody on earth worry about other plant or animal life when it comes to pesticides? (that's an exaggeration, but I assume you get my point)
