Spore prints vs. buying

How useful is it to make your own spore prints and then syringes off them, versus buying them?
How many syringes can you, on average, make from a spore print? How difficult is it to keep everything sterile enough? Is it merely a good way to keep one of each strand around, or is it also useful for the very casual grower?

Why pay for something you can do yourself. It's not that hard to do.

you can get alot of syringes from one print! like 5-10. Making your own prints is the shit! it's fun and exciting! I try to print like every mushroom I grow that way i'll never run out of spores! basicly you'll be savin lots of money if you make your own and it is actually very easy!!

For beginners, it is wise to start with SPORE SYRINGES from a vendor.
I suggest buying a several syringe combo pack.
Sporeworks & Ralphster have good selections.
Once you have a grow or 2 under your belt.
And have/build a glove box.
It is well worth printing your own.
However, technique & practice makes perfect.
So, it takes learning & practice to get it down pat.
This is an easy method for novice's.
Then, move up to:

Between making your own LC,spore prints and g2g once you have been up and running for a while you will never need to buy spores again until you want to strain dabble and even then you can usually trade some of your strains for the ones you want with other members . I do still like to buy a syringe here and there if someone is having a good deal though an just make gallons of LC for the future

Or, rather then making prints and using the prints to make syringes, simply scrape some spores into a Liquid Culture and cut out the step of making spore syringes.

I also suggest the use of a honey LC. That way you add another step but can save a few since you can make sure you add vital spores to your growing medium. Spores germinate faster in the LC than grain and that's another reason.

i did my own spore syringe for the first jar and it is contam-free (so far). it's not too hard. the only thing i don't understand about most sites that sell spore prints & syringes is why is the syringe cheaper than the print.

To multiply it.
If you have a real dark syringe it's gonna work just as well diluted 1:10

Here ya go,http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4141612/an/0/page/0 use honey instead of karo,15cc'c to every 500 of water, this will make enough for two baby bottles with 100 ml to spare,O and don't forget to put 2 sharp shards of broken glass in each bottle before it goes in the PC
