while inoculating my jars a few days back i noticed a few of the inoculation holes covered in rust..bad sign but the jars had sat for a week with no contaminants.Anyways if any of u have had rust around your holes did it affect the colinization speed?

it doesn't affect anything unless the rust becomes so great that the lids don't close tightley enough

I've got a lot of jars with some slight rust. As said, as long as the lids screw on the way they're supposed to, you'll be fine.

The only danger is if you cut yourself on the rusty metal. Just be careful.

Have rust, and have reused. Hasn't been a problem.
Plastic lids look nice...perhaps stocking stuffer....
