hey all, i just recently started hunting and it has been raining alot and also high temps in the 50's which has been absolutely perfect for their growth. looks like our first frost did little to slow these guys down. i found some interesting ones yesterday, growing 20 mins outside of milwaukee and also some outside my apartment in milwaukee. just wondering if you guys could help me id these babies.

1. suspected Flammulina velutipes

Habitat: milwaukee, growing out of a stump outside of my apartment
Color: Cap is orange/caramel, the tissue underneith is white/cream, stem is velvety and the color is brown towards the base and cream from the middle to the cap
Spore color: very white

from my research these seem to be edible which would be great since i havent had breakfast yet!

you can also see the next mush on the right side, very small and dark colored which is described below

2. not known since i havent ever seen it before

Habitat: 20 mins west of milwaukee in a dense wet forest, moss EVERYWHERE
Found: growing inside what appeared to be a rotting pine stump, lots of myc inside
Color: the cap is dark brown/black, under cap is a dark brown color, the stem is also a maroonish/dark brown color. the cap looks like that of a liberty cap
Spore: has yet to be printed, may have already dropped it's spores

looks like they could be enoki, but the pics and info are not enough for us to give you a definite answer. I would recommend against eating them.

I've found F. velutipes a few times myself, but I haven't tried them yet, because they look somewhat similar to some pretty toxic species. when dealing with stuff like that, it's a good idea to collect them numerous times before trying them, until you're totally convinced you have what you think you have...

I can't tell with those pics.

Certainly not hallucinogenic... not sure about the edibility.

there seems to be some white on the stem, Ive never seen enoki with white on the stem, were they growing in/on dead wood?

Yes, the supposed velutipes were indeed growin on a hollowed out stump, they came out from behind the bark. i could only see the orange caps, so i tore away the bark and found the whole stem and cap growing. thats why i believe they were the ones i listed before. i wasnt able to completely identify them and they started to rot so i threw them away.
