Police nab father, son for marijuana

Two North Platte men were arrested Sunday after a caller alerted the North Platte Police of a marijuana-growing operation.

Henry Mercer, 51, and Anthony Mercer, 23, both of 1809 W. Second, appeared in Lincoln County Court Monday for charges of delivery/intent to deliver marijuana, a controlled substance. Bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000 for each defendant. Henry Mercer's preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 1 at 9:45 a.m. before Judge Kent Florom. Anthony Mercer's preliminary hearing is set for today at 11:15 a.m. before Judge Kent Turnbull.

According to Investigator Steve Toelle, the North Platte Police Department received a phone call from a female caller, who told police there were several marijuana plants in the home of Henry Mercer. The caller also told police there were several items of drug paraphernalia throughout the house.

Officers went to 1809 W. Second and met with Anthony Mercer and later met with Henry Mercer when he arrived home. Officers requested to search the home and Anthony refused. Officers obtained a search warrant.

While searching the residence, officers allegedly found 19 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, several items of drug paraphernalia including glass bongs, marijuana pipes, Ziplock baggies and seeds.

Anthony and Henry were arrested for allegedly manufacturing marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Delivery/intent to deliver marijuana, a controlled substance is a class three felony and carries a sentence of 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

Lincoln County District Court Judge Donald E. Rowlands Monday sentenced one man for time served and another for 30 days for driving under the influence.

Mark P. Roepke, 43, address unknown, was sentenced to 106 days in jail on an amended charge of attempted delivery/intent to delivery marijuana, a controlled substance.

According to Blaine Gillett, Roepke's attorney, Roepke was in possession of about one ounce of marijuana with a street value of $100.

Roepke was arrested on a warrant issued July 20 for the April 5 offense.

In a plea agreement with the state, Roepke pleaded guilty. He was given credit for 106 days in jail.

John E. Grafford, 52, of Idaho, was sentenced in district court to 30 days in jail for a third offense of driving under the influence.

According to court reports, officers responded to 1402 Rodeo Road on Dec. 9, 2005, where they allegedly found Grafford passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle.
Grafford pleaded guilty to an amended charge of driving under the influence fourth offense.

Grafford was sentenced to 30 days in jail and had his license revoked for one year after incarceration. He received credit for one day.

Damn that sounds exactly like what me and my dad had going on for a while but thankfully we sold those plants lol.

I would have thrown all of all that shit into the river while they left to get a warrant.

And that bitch neighbor of theirs needs to learn to mind her own business. It was just a father-son business venture that they were running. :P

Nice try. the problem is the cops usually STAY while the warrant is obtained (couple quick phone calls, sheriff delivers warrant- you know the rest).
