If you live near the see and there are cockles being sold, go find where they are de-shelled. The beach there will be made of their shells. Thats your CaCO2 right there.

Just go buy some chalk. You must have chalkboards in the UK, right? Of course over there they're probably called something gay like, "Drawing Boards" or "Slates".. something like that. Anyways, yeah.. just plain white chalk will do.

what are you going to mix the calcium carbonate with? i mean are you using it with coco coir or what?

if it is with coir, then you can get away without using a buffer if you have to.

i think i read somewhere that you can use crushed, dried eggshells as an alternative to calcium carbonate...

Dried eggshells and a coffee grinder will work too.

Any feed store should have at least crushed oyster shells. It's £3,15 for 22,69 kilos here at the feed stores, in the usa.

You have eggs, there's gotta be chickens somewhere over there, wich means feed stores somewhere.

Edit: not having any luck on google.co.uk for hampshire feed/fleet stores, wonder if you call it by some funky name over there. Darn those people across the big pond and their silly words... like thinking a cigg is a fag (j/k)

also check brewing stores they should have it. They call it "chalk" sometimes.
