Why won't this darn thing pin?
    #626453 - 05/11/02 05:16 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

Recently some jars were innoculated with treasure coast. Unfortunatly 3of 6 were lost to contams. One has been fully colonized for about a week now. The other two are a little behind. The fully colonized one was placed into a fruiting chamber with a RH at 95%, temp in the upper 70's, and with very indirect light. Air exchange is done about 4 times a day. The cake has been in the chamber for the entire last week and still there is no signs of anything as far as pinning goes. It was thought that the cake needed to be dunked. So it got dunked for 6 hrs. After 3 days, that proved to be unsuccessful. Now the cake is being cold shocked to see the results.

At this point I think every possible aspect has been puzzled over. What am I missing? Could this cake just not be able to produce fruits? Maybe I'm just impatient, but from what I've read the cake should respond within a day or two of being dunked. So now cold shocking seems to be the last thing to look at. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Peace,
StainBlue

It would seem that you and I are in the same boat. Mine wont pin, but they keep growing. I have not tried to dunk them or anything else though.

Glad I checked this one.
Treasure coasts are extremly slow pinners even on dung took about 2 and a half weeks for a freind. He didn't think they were going to pin at all but they finally did. Pinning speed picks up on em after the first flush. They are definatly slowest strain all around in my opinion but heavy yeilders.
Be patient and fan regularly. Give it another week to 2 weeks for pins there slow but they'll pin after while.
Hope this helps.
Rember be patient I know it's hard

Yeah, the TCs I have going right now took 12 days to start pinning.
Went from 1 little pin 3 days ago to about 20 this morning on 8 cakes. So they are gonna flush heavily eventually.
Definitely need patience with TC.

I've found that the cambodians colonize like mad but are only moderate in their pinning speed. You know the expression "a watced pot never boils?" Same idea goes for your cakes. Just give em time and you'll be happy.
