Cobweb mold?
    #6230186 - 10/31/06 09:02 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Hello Folks,

So Ive been told that i might have cobweb mold in my substrate. This is the top inert layer of my jar.

Question:

Isn't cobweb mold supposed to grow faster then the mushroom mycelium? Like much faster? nothing in any of my jars grew fast. It all seemed to be mycelium. Also everything started from the innco points.

If it is, i guess I'll have to look into some sort of h2o2 dunking. :frown:

Thank to everyone for the help.

its mycelium.

everyone makes that incorrect assumption the first time they birth a jar. you get light whispier growth into the dry verm layer at the top... but its normal. its the mycelium reaching out, looking for more food, but it can't colonize as thickly up there because there is no food.

cobweb is rare in jars to begin with. cobweb also needs stagnant air to grow... so the least likely of spots its going to grow is at the top of your jar where the holes are.

if/when you do actually get cobweb, you'll know. its an obvious grey color and looks nothing like mushroom mycelium. and yes, it does grow quite rapidly.

you're totally fine.

Thanks alot! Yeah, its as white as the rest of the mycelium, just softer.

Yay! that means i have had no contams so far with my first grow.

I will keep a vigilant eye though!
