I dunno if this should be here ir in ODD so feel free to move it if you want.
Does anyone take this regularly or have any experience with it? I have been in quite a slump lately with winter coming and thought I'd give it a shot. I have been taking 100mg once a day for the last three days and I just smoked a bowl, but something weird happened... I feel reeeeeeeally happy and mentally sharp. My thoughts are flowing smoothly and I have a bit of euphoria. This almost feels too good to do regularly...
edit: earlier today I had a weird "electric twitch" in my neck. I'm wondering if this was related to the 5-htp. In any case it has an effect

Yeah, Yesterday I had a few trippy moments like color shifting or deja vu type things but didn't make the connection, I assume that could also be attributed to the increased serotonin activity. I have researched this stuff a lot but never found many personal anecddotes except for a couple on erowid. Just wanted to hear what other people thought of it.

I find L- tryptophan to be much better than 5-htp, but I never used it on regular daily basis.

How long does it take for this stuff to kick in ?
I bought some with Valerian added, cost fuckin loads !
I took them for 3 days and i felt well depressed ( ive attempted this twice ), and the Valerian was making me drowsy.. I still have a full tub but i don't want to take them, i'm not sure if it's just me though.

I had an "electric twitch" sensation when withdrawing from Paroxetene (Paxil). I would definately ask a neurologist for advice.
From what I've heard, full-blown serotonin syndrome is not fun.

I would have to agree with this advice. While I am a supporter of supplement use, caution and research is necessary. This is especially true when using anything that has a dramatic impact on hormone levels.

I have been through SSRI withdrawal before. This was not repeated like the shocks you get with SSRI WD's and felt distinctly different. In fact it hasn't happened again since so it may have been unrelated. I kind of feel the same way as Dr Gonz. It seems to me like lexapro permanently upset my mental balance, and I haven't taken it in well over a year. I am hoping that 5-HTP will slightly increase my serotonin levels but without fucking with the synaptic regulation mechanism. It just provides building material, doesn't change the synaptic process at all, which is a little comforting.
I slept very well last night and woke up this morning with a big, incredibly refreshing yawn and stretch and I still feel pretty grand. This is pretty interesting stuff but I think it makes me drowsy since I have been lethargic the last couple days do I'm going to start taking it at night a few hours before bed and see how that works.
Anyone else?

I used to take it if I was studying late at night and needed to feel refreshed in the morning.
Maybe me getting ~3 hrs of sleep and coming out of a cycle in my circadian rhyhtm or maybe the 5-htp helped my brain produce enough serotonin to feel as good as new the next day. I'm leaning more on the circadian rhythm but do believe the 5htp does make me feel better the next day.
I wouldn't take it regularly though. Only when you really need it. Or cycle it... 2weeks on and 1 week off or something.
