How honest are you Part 2
    #6208432 - 10/24/06 09:39 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Are you more honest with people on the internet then elsewhere?

I like to think my online persona is as close as possible to my real personality.

Id have to ask the people I have met IRL, like demius, shroomism, gillette, dblaney, anewway2sayhooray.... etc... atleast those are the only shroomerites I can think of whom I had enough of a conversation with who could tell.

I just re-read my post, and realized it wasn't in anyway an answer to your question......

but yeah... Im honest online... moreso, because it isnt really me. I can tell everyone here that I busted a nut in my own eye once, but Im not sure I could just blurt that out in any situation.

Yes, definitely. Few people in my everyday life know who I am.

If by honest you mean open, then yes. It's not that I lie to people I see everyday, but I'm not as likely to let them in on certain aspects of my life as I am on the internet.

your online persona is never really you.

I mean, while at times, you may feel like you, and when you read your own posts, you hear your own voice in your head, but everyone else has their own ideas of what you look like, what inflection you would use, and what type of voice you have... atleast that is what I do when I read certain frequent posters posts.

I try tyo make all my posts written like a conversation to add more me to the persona, but there is still always a misconception about who i am.... so I am someone else to everyone else, and sometimes me.

I do try to express as much of me as I can when I post. While I may not reveal myself to every person I run into on the street, or at my job, I want to be known. Perhaps we all want to be known?

your online persona is never really you.

sure it is; just as much as your in person persona is.

well, not me. I have almost (really close to 0) personal advertisement. I dont put up veils to make people think I am someone I am not.

If I ever do that, I do it on here. Im sure everyone is a little bit more of a hard ass, tough-guy on here than they are in real life.

When you meet me, I am who I am, there is no "deeper" me, or "real" me.

Really? I am much softer and more vulnerable here than in "real life." I feel much more exposed when I meet people in person, so I do not choose to expose myself further.

I understand that but even if you post a phony persona here that is still the real you.  We cannot be other than we are. Even our faking it is really us.

I bet I could make a puppet and post from him/her for years without anyone knowing.

Valences come easy to me.

So what? It would still be you. That's my point here. You really can't get away from yourself. The real you is the one who feels the need to have a puppet and fool everyone. No one else is doing this.

It seems much easier to be honest on the internet than in "real life." If any of you threaten me emotionally, I can turn you off at will or use the effective rationalization, "Who cares what this person thinks. It's just some dude on the internet."

Its easier to shut up in real life, because conflicts there are harder to run away from.

I can just turn of my computer, but I can't do that in real life.

I tend to be more smooth-talking in real life, but mostly I try to be as honest as I can. I don't mind stepping on toes if I have the time of day.

I find that on this forum you are much more aggressive. When I met you I was a little nervous because of this, but in person you are very soft spoken comparatively.

That's because you were nervous.   Also, we did not engage in active debate during your visit.  Maybe next time.

No no,baby. Hue's right. You are sweeter and more loving in person. So am I. Hue pointed that out. We do our tough love here on the forums and love to hug and pet in person.

Plus I wasn't sure if Hue would take a swing at me. :nutkick:
