    #6174523 - 10/16/06 09:01 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, so i just put my cakes in the FC about a week ago or so and i couldn't really find anything on this plus i always rather have personal opinions too, helps alot more heh. But i was just woundering how often should i change the perlite out? Or can i just take the cakes out for a little bit to spray some acohol and or peroxide on it?

Change the perlite out in between grows. Adding peroxide is a good way to HELP ward off contams during fruiting, and you can rinse and then cook the perlite in the oven (350 for like 30 minutes) to be able to reuse.

I do an over night soak in a 5gal. bucket with 1/4 cup bleach added to the water enough to cover and float the perlite then rinse the next day and it's as fresh as ever! I hate that smell of old perlite (stinky socks) no matter how slight!

Isn't pouring out all the perlite really messy? Is it actually necessary, or could I just spray down the fc and perlite with straight hydrogen peroxide?

Not at all I use a pillowcase BTW to drain, this for me works great for a couple of grows before it was necessary again, back when I did perlite humidification before I moved on to full auto.
