My money is on the jar won't be there long enough to go bad..
Light, heat, oxygen, and moisture are your enemies keep those away and it will be good a long looong time. The freezer tends to dry the moisture to the jar and freezer burn them,I keep them in a fridge and drawer,3-6 months has never been a issue (never lasts much longer either) and I don't even use silica.

I don't think the loss of potency is really an issue to worry about - especially being stored in a jar. I've smoked six-month old ganja that had been stored in a ziplock bag and carried around in a friend's purse for most of that time. It was dry, harsh, and not that enjoyable to smoke, but no less potent at all.
Being stored in an air tight container with silica, in ideal conditions, I think it would last ages.

If you had lots, you could just sieve the kief and make a brick out of it. Im sure pressed trichomes probably keep forever. Ive heard of people somehow getting into old stashes, of their parents or whatever. One guy told me he smoked some stuff from the last 70s, back in early 2000. but who knows. depends on the quality of the ganj, the container, and the stashspot. I would think good nug would hav no problem lasting over a year at room temp in a small glass jar.

I think the biggest problem that you'll face with storing weed is the possibility of mold but if you use silica and your weed isn't too wet when you stash it you should be okay.

i can tell you as a grower, and from previous curing nightmares... - potency will not be an issue - you can make your smoke much more pleasurable if done correctly - you allow more time for the degredation of chlorophyll - mold is your worst enemy , make sure to " breathe" your jars about periodically ..this will allow the moisture some escape route. - it is possible to flavour your marijuana during this time period if you would like any more details just let me know .

Elaborating on flavours would be appreciated.

My understanding is that once you get it to the right moisture level you don't want to let it lose any more. I forgot what the magic number as far as the moisture percentage. However you can get a vacuum sealer for Mason Jars. There are a lot of food savers out there that have an attachment that goes to mason jars that will make your jars airtight without having to heat them like you would when canning in a PC. This will keep all the oxygen out which should help with mold. After that keep it in a dark cool place and you should be straight.

Well as i type this i'm smoking a year old bud, and it's one of the top 3 most potent buds i've smoked. All you gotta do is make sure it's as dry as you like to smoke it (cracker dry for rolling and just a bit wetter in bowls for me) and then jar it up in an air tight Ball or Kerr or one of those types of canning jars, and it'll be good a very long time.
As for pressed hash, i'd be willing to bet that the really pressed bricked up dense stuff would last even longer than a bud, because nothing except any ambiet heat would be getting to the trichomes in the middle of the chunk, because it's pressed so well together. So just keep the heat off
Also there's absolutely no need for silica gel, unless moisture has a chance of coming in at all, which in an airtight jar it doesn't. Just a waste of money in my opinion.

Elaborating on flavors would be appreciated.
Dried Apple peels make it sweet, citrus peel like oranges, lemons can make some interesting tastes. Then there's always mint leaves
And now the other things, head shops sell flavor drops http://herbsmoke.com/tasty_puff/ ,you put x amount of drops per weight and you can get all kinda flavors that way from coconut to watermelon.Letting it sit only makes it better, but you can just drip that stuff on anything even cigs and get a quick change of taste.
