911 hang-up leads police to marijuana-filled home

A 911 hang-up led Sparks police to a marijuana-filled residence that included a toddler and an infant and resulted in three arrests.

Police said they went to 642-1 Pine Meadows Drive at 1:37 p.m. Friday and observed a plastic bag of marijuana on the floor.

A search of the residence revealed an additional 3 pounds of marijuana

in a bedroom, which was placed next to a 6-month-old sleeping in a bassinet, police said.

The baby and 3-year-old were removed from the home and placed with a relative with the assistance of Washoe County Social Services.

Police said they also found drug paraphernalia, including pipes to smoke methamphetamine and marijuana.

The children's mother, Lindsay Bettis, 22, was arrested and booked into Washoe County Jail on suspicion of possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia and child endangerment, authorities said.

Her bail is $4,532.

Richard Pangborn, father of the infant, was booked on suspicion of child endangerment, police said.

Pangborn was being held without bail because of a felony warrant

on a narcotics violation, police

said.

Drezdon Martin-Wiles, 20, was booked on suspicion of marijuana

and drug paraphernalia, which

carries a $1,865 bail, authorities

said.

But police said there was an outstanding warrant for the arrest of Martin-Wiles, which added an additional $5,000 to the bail.

it should also be noted, that babies in bassonettes aren't likely to hop out and swallow weed, any more then they are likely to hop out and swallow thumbtacks or earrings.

but you dont see kids removed from households for that do you?

well, think of it this way. what if some crackheads from down the street knew that there was a whole shitload of ganja sittin in that house. here's what would happen. crackheads decide to take what's they think is theirs. they proceed to enter the house and basically take everyone hostage, including the poor defenseless baby. daddy freaks out, gets himself and his wife shot. perpetrators got away. now the state basically has a parentless child to raise as its own because the parents weren't smart enough to provide a SAFE environment in which it can live.

how often do crackheads do home-invasions robberies over a nickel sack of weed? it may happen more often than not. so how many desperate people would do that for a couple pounds?

so people should be accountable for keeping children around nice things? a crackhead also might like a jewelry box, electronics, anything that can be pawned.

it's not the parents fault if someone breaks in and kills them.

and its not weeds fault that crackheads are crackheads.

well a pound of pot would be a "nice thing" if it were legal. but it's not. case closed.

A Pound of pot is a nice thing legal or not. You totally missed the point of his post. A person can be robbed for a million reasons, doesn't mean the parents endangered a child by being robbed.

my point is not that the person is at fault for being robbed. the person is at fault for actively engaging in illegal pursuits.

if possesion of gold were to become illegal to possess, those who decided to break the law by possesing gold, would therefore be putting themselves in danger of arrest, or worse yet, robbery. perhaps criminal activity should be left to people without children.

no amount of argument is going to change the fact that society is based upon laws and to break those laws, nomatter how fair or unfair those laws may seem, necessarily put the lawbreaker at risk. such are the way laws are designed.

if you engage in legal pursuits, you have the law behind you. if you engage in illegal pursuits, you have disregarded the law so therefore it can't protect you.

it other words, it's not the fault of the "laws" at issue, it's the fault of the parents for not obeying the laws, if not for the sake of thier own child, who unfortunately can't decide for itself wether or not to be on one side of the law or the other, then for the sake of themselves.

if you want to avoid being considered a "bad parent" and losing your parental rights, don't you think it would be in your best interest to obey drug laws?

or do you expect to give legal protection to parents with children who blatantly defy the law??? what kind of society is that?

lets aggree that its wrong to say the parents endangered the children,

But rather directly endangered their legal guardianship.
