Supernatural: Meetings with the Ancient Teachers of Mankind

I just picked up this new book by Graham Hancock. It seems really fascinating: it's a history of shamanism (with a lot of emphasis on the hallucinogenic indoles) that draws from Terence McKenna, Mircea Eliade, Rick Strassman, and many other notables. Hancock's basic argument is that the crises of the modern world (and here he paraphrases McKenna, knowingly or not) stem from modern humans' lack of a direct connection to the unconscious mind and the 'spirit' of the natural world which surrounds us. The book is very well-researched (especially compared with McKenna's similar The Food of the Gods, but also simply by modern academic standards) and the writing flows well. At 720 pages it's pretty thick, but I plan on posting a review when I'm finished, or in segments as I go along.
Anyone else have this book or have any interest in it? The hard cover is only $20 on Amazon. Thus far I recommend.
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Saw it at the local Barnes and Noble, but it was 30 bucks. I'll wait until it goes paperback. I really do want to read it too.
Hancock was just on Coast to Coast AM and had a damn good interview. I've got the files if you're interested.
He's also gonna do a small book tour and will make a stop in Boulder. I think I may make a trip up there and see him.

I heard him on Coast to Coast this morning and knew I had to check the book out.

Ok, it's an interesting - though not particularly enlightening, for anyone who's had profound psychedelic experiences - read so far. My main beef thus far is that he is advocating many of the exact same things, almost verbatim, that McKenna had been advocating for years, and yet the only time he cites Terence in the book (aside from footnotes) is in his more dubious theories about the effects of DMT and beta-carbolines on human RNA.

Also, from what I saw in the reference index in the back, McKenna isn't even in there...
I also don't think Hancock even mentioned McKenna in his C2C AM show.

McKenna isn't in the index - he appears a few times (I assume a few - I only saw one but it's a long list) in the footnotes. And you're right, he wasn't mentioned on C2C. It's kind of perturbing me, as so much of what Hancock's saying is McKenna's rap.
Then again, as long as the word is getting out....
