Mycobag in the Hydra-pod LET THE FLAMES BEGIN (Pic)
    #613408 - 04/20/02 12:27 AM (21 years, 11 months ago)

Well I know how fond everyone is of the Hydra-pod and the myco bags so I figured why not combine to two beasts and see what happens. This is a picture of a mycobag..I believe the strain I used in it was PESA..anyway I harvested about 14 grams dry on the first flush.....threw this in the pod and I'd say probably 7 days later I have this I'll post a picture in a little while to show everyone how they are maturing...I really need to find a better light source too...my mushrooms are growing in all different directions...

what do you think the adavantages would be to putting something from the myco-bag in the hydra???? i thought the main purpose was to have a self contained bag for mushrroms to fruit in... just curious. i would think the yeid would be identical to something that was started in a jar, filter patch, etc. it seems to me like spending 10-15 for a canning jar

Cool! "Myco Cakes", Nice save! I hope you saved the bags.
If you'd like to avoid this in the future, simply fruit the bags
by standing  them back in the box that they were shipped
in(top open of course). This will discourage pinning on the
bottom. If they pin on the sides, don't worry, they will easily
make their way to the top of the bag. They're a little harder to
pick but they're taller because the start lower than the normal
surface.
If you decide you need to free up some hydropod space, you
could pick those when ready, dunk it, and return it to the bag,
if you still have it.
Just a thought.

Actually I thought  the main idea of the myco bag was to have a more sterile, contam free enviroment to colonize the substrate.
Thus making it easier for people to have some fruits rather than contams with the PF Tek....especially the newbies on their first go at this hobby.
But I could be wrong.

I think this is a great idea putting it in the pod....since the substrate is already colonized.
So your past the part of easily getting contams.
This myco bag cake could really kick some ass!
The pod might produce larger yeilds..... cause of the enviroment inside the pod.
I'll be watching this thread.

And the bag seems to have about 3 jars worth of substrate in it to me.
I'm testing out 4 bags right now.....so stay tuned.
3 EQ bags....and 1 Acadian Coast bag.

Good luck Doc!
I like a person that experiments.

It's 420...Do you know where your   is ?

Road,
I am not exactly sure of the intent but you are right, sterile environ is proably the best use for it. They could however make the bags quite a bit smaller like a brick instead of a brick in a big plastic bag if they were just going for a method to make sterile cakes. They might look somehting more like those little impulse-sealed bags that una does, but about 1/10th of the size

Particle,
I'm not dissin you...bro
I just see the bags being able to be used in a different light.
I think I would have cut up the huge cake into 3 seperate peices...in the pod.
Think that would give it more surface area.....not sure.
I love tinkering with stuff.

SG....bro
I didn't have any Cambodian syringes made up.....lolzzz
Or I would have tryed the Cambos.....you know me too well.
Reason I try the Cambodians out on new things is simple.
I have more Cambodian spores than anything else.....plus I love the buzz they give.

I tryed the Sporeworks EQ's out cause it was given to me with the 4 bags.
Plus I wanted to see what the Acadian Coast would do in the bags.
The Acadian Coast has small fruits on the 1st flush.....2nd flush fruits are huge.
Plus.....I don't think anyone else has tryed the Acadian Coast in the bags... yet.

Anyway.....I've rambled on long enough...lolz
Oh....and I picked up 120 lbs. of horse poo yesterday....lolz

Happy 420 to my brothers and sisters...party on!!!
And be safe!

so what exactly are the parts that make up this hydra-pod system. the site, and the few posts ive been reading on them has sparked my intrigue.

i noticed that they are pretty damn expensive, so thats making me stick to my good ol' cooler with water/heater (incubation)/glass aquarium/perlite (fruiting)

but if it is a simple thing, easily put together from things that can be found at Lowe's/pet stores, id like to try to put one together myself and take her for a test drive. that would sure beat spending 100 or 200 bucks on a bucket and a bubbler, when i do it myself for a fraction of the cost.

thanks.
