unexpected weilii
    #6115542 - 09/29/06 01:26 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

i was landscaping in smyrna today and i came across some weilii. i thought it was weird to find them in smyrna because im out there frequently and haven't seen any. what was even stranger is that they were growing out of decomposing grass with (of course) red clay underneath. i havent seen these guys in dead grass before but i have found them in pinestraw and yellow straw. anybody else find any in grass or in smyrna? weilii are just out of control this year!

here they are

shroom on! :mushroom2:

If there was a weilii hunter of the year award, I think you'd be up for it. This is insane!

Nice work! Just talked to a friend back in northern georgia who said he has been finding massive amounts of weilii even when there is no rain!

alot of weilii that i've seen grow fine from just the morning dew on the grass. of course they are also next to a small pond that i'm sure causes slight dampness.

weilii are interesting in that once you get a rain there will be one amazing flush and slowly tapering flushes thereafter even with lack of rain. the first weilii tend to be larger and darker while the later ones will be lighter and smaller and dryer when you find them (normally). they are extremely hygrophanous. these were more than likely a product of the rain we got this past weekend.( the dew helps too!) they are very resilliant mushrooms.
