I moved this from the PE because I think you will receive more answers in here.
You could post your plans in a new thread in this forum! There are many people in here who can help you.
Good grow sites are also welcome ofcourse!

Thanks so much anno!!!!
My actual plans are as follows:
I've been trying to come up with a fairly stealthy way to build a growing chamber without spending quite the money that's involved for something like a phototron. This is my first venture into growing, so I'm trying to compromise functionality with price. I'm only planning on one plant, so here's what I'm planning...
To make a growing enclosure, I'm going to be using a large metal contractor's trash can (one of the huge metal ones that you see outside of people's businesses, and on farms). I figure this will give more than enough room for plant growth, plus aluminum is good at heat dissipation. And if god forbid some sort of fire would start inside the chamber, the metal might contain it for a few minutes at least.
I'm going to angle grind 3 holes on one side of the can, and two slightly larger ones on the other. I'm putting 3 80mm fans on side one for air intake, and 2 100mm fans on the other for exhaust. This way airflow will be constant across the plant, plus a positive pressure will be kept inside of the enclosure to help provide resistance to contams and bugs/pests. The intake fans are going to have dust screens on them (like on an air conditioner), and the exhaust fans are going to have improvised activated charcoal filters on them (two pieces of cheesecloth, and activated charcoal sandwiched between). The inside of the chamber is going to be spraypainted a matte white.
For light, I'm going to mount a 400 watt HPS to the lid of the trash can. This way when I need to work with the plant I can just remove the entire lid, with the light, and move it out of my way. I'm considering getting a 400 watt MH conversion bulb for vegetative growing, but I think that might be reserved for round 2. For now I think I might just stick with the HPS. The ballast will be plugged into a timer for the light cycles, which will be plugged into a fused power strip (OR a UPS with power conditioning if i can get my hands on a junk one from work). I'm considering adding a thermal sensor extension cable on to the ballast just to further reduce fire hazards. Also plugged into the power strip will be the fans. I want the fans to keep running whether the light is on or off. They'll be wired into another switch, so that I can manually shut them off if needed.
Right now I'm using bag seed since if I screw up, it won't cost me any money. I'm also planning to use soil as my grow medium. If anyone can give some advice to improve the design, please do. I tried to cover all of my concerns with the design, and I'm about to start gathering materials. Thanks guys!
So, does this sound like it should work ok? I have some sprouts started as of this morning so I'd like to get started asap. Thanks

Well, good news, I just found a cheap grow lamp at home fepot for 20 dollars. Had a gift card, so it didn't cost a cent It's a 150 watt cfl desk lamp with a blue spectrum light. I'm using that for the sprouts. If someone could please advise me on the plans I'd appreciate it

Sounds like a solid plan!

I have no experience with this kind of improvised active charcoal filters. How sure are you this works?
What kind of fans are you going to use? How much air can they replace?
Are you going to use a fertilizer?
Are you going to measure the pH of the water you give? This is not essential, but important if you want the largest harvest possible.
Make sure you can adjust the height of the HPS.
What are the max and min temperatures of intake air?
There will always be some startup problems, but you will be able to solve them. I think you have a good idea of how a growbox should look like.

actually home made carbon filters aren't that hard to make. Ive read plans involving a 5 gallon bucket, some ducting connectors, a hepa filter, and a carton of activated charcoal. Im sure the cheesecloth method will work well enough to alleviate some of the smell.

Although, i too have contemplated a garbage can grow, I decided against it (there is no way in hell you could use a 400W though). Have you seen my 250W cabinet? It only cost me roughly $300 to put together, and if i had another (when i make another) I will be harvesting once every 30 days. 150CFL will grow MJ, and i also have a floro grow here too (search the ethnogarden) but you will have to step up to a HID lighting system if you get serious. The carbon scrubber idea seems plausible, but i can't remember reading using cheese cloth. Not doubting, just can't remember, As a matter of fact, i now I'm thinking you should use polyfill stuffing. But a layer of cheese cloth wouldn't hurt anything. FYI, my plants just started to give off the slightest smell, and they are 25 days into flowering. Different strains have different odor levels.
The screens over the air intakes is a good idea, along with keeping it under pressure. But the last one is going to be pretty hard. Keeping the air moving is more easily accomplished, bugs have a hard time flying where its windy. I also REALLY recommend using some Yellow Sticky Traps for bugs. Lots of bugs are attracted to the color yellow, and you can see what bugs have been near your garden. They probably won't prevent any initial infestation, but trap them so you can identify. If you find 3 or 4 Thrips in your sticky tape, you probably have a small problem.
Good luck, and tell know one you know personally, about your grow. Its SO HARD, but unless you would lend you 'friends' $2000 or trust them to hold that much cash for you a couple days, you can't let them know about your 'cash crop' Money does grow on trees, and when people get around your finishing plants, they are staring at your money. Stealing your crop has no repercussion other than a lost friendship, you can't go to the cops to report.
If you must share with someone, share it here. It is a release, maybe not as much as with close friends, but it is slightly gratifying. All but 2 of my friends know nothing of my gardening skills, one set me up with the genetics(so he had to know) and i told one other guy who has grown before. When my friends talk about getting/finding/buying weed, i just bite my lip, and nod along with them. They show me there inferior buds, i keep my mouth shut. I'm becoming a real pot snob

Welp, out of 6 seeds planted in soil from bag seed, 6 sprouts have arisen. Out of them, I've noted one that seems to be extremely vigorous with growing. I'm trying to keep track of the fastest growers, since I have a feeling they'll be the ones that don't get scrapped. Hopefully they turn out to be ladies
How important is airflow to the plants? Can they be fanned a few times a day? At the moment they're hiding in a closet with the CFL on them, until they're a wee bit bigger. The downside is the closet has no moving air save for when I open and close it.
I may abandon the trash can idea until I have a bit more funding.
