So are you gonna eat that Lactarius Indigo?

The Doctor Seuss "Green Eggs and Ham" thing comes from this mushroom, as when you cook it in an omelette the blue mixes with the yellow eggs to make them green. Its supposed to be a good edible, although some dont like the texture apparently.

Yeah, those are great pics.  Never found them myself. Actually one time was strolling in the woods with my friend smoking cbd flower and may have actually found these in a cluster of trees.

Nice finds TNpsilo420!

I found some Indigo blue Milkies for the first time yesterday and cooked them last night. They are beautiful mushrooms, but the texture and flavor leaves much to be desired. I sauteed them with some onions and added them to a white sauce. I was hoping they would turn the white sauce blue. After cooking they turned a delightful aqua-green, but the color did not bleed into the sauce. Unlike many choice edibles that have a meaty texture and flavor, the indigos were grainy/mushy and tasted like a vegetable. It was almost like eating green beans.

I would call Lactarius indigo a mediocre edible if it were not for the fact that it also causes diarrhea. Several hours after eating them, both my mom and I found ourselves running to the toilet. It was not a sever poisoning, but not something I would want to repeat.

I don't think I will ever try blue milkies again, and I certainly will never serve them to other people. This beautiful species is best appreciated for its aesthetic value and left in the woods.

If you want to your indigos to turn a white blue I recommend using a blender as in making bisque. You want a fairly high ratio of mushroom to sauce… about equal parts if at all possible. This can sometimes be difficult to achieve due to the relative scarcity of this mushroom however it is worth the effort.
