PC time for castings/verm 50/50
    #6093380 - 09/23/06 02:11 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Just wondering how long to PC my verm/castings mix? I hav 100% wbs colonized to add to it. Do I need to PC this for an hour like the WBS? I was thinking maybe not.

Thanks

Totally depends on the size of the containers it's being PC'd in. Bigger containers obviously take longer to reach the same temperature.

They are pints.

I suppose I'd go ahead and PC for an hour like the WBS, to be on the safe side. You can't really over sterilize casing, as it is just a non-nutritious layer.

No.. I am wanting the colonized substrate to colonize this also.. then let it sit a few days... then case it.. using monotub

I think he means worm castings/verm, to use as additional substrate.

I say an hour, but I don't use half pints and really have no clue to help, I'm just trying to clarify your post. My mycobags get steralized a long time, and my quarts go for 1.5 hours. I don't really see what it being hot for longer would hurt though, as long as the PC doesn't run out of water.

Ahh, I see. I misread, thinking casing layer, rather than worm castings in a substrate. Even still, I'd just PC it for the same amount of time you PC the WBS.

Correct. You shouldn't PC substrates. They should be pasteurized.
