What does hulled unhulled mean? I figure it is that little hole in the side right? I have a few pounds from a health food store that has the holes in it, haven't used any yet but was wondering when I saw this post. I figure when I have a good culture from a clone I'll start trying the good stuff!!

the stuff with the little holes in are hulled, ie they've had the shell removed.

If you use de-hulled millet you end up with a gummy mushy mess. Personally I find it easier to work with rye and I have to go to the same Nature's Marketplace for whole kernel millet as I do organic rye berries.

hulled millet will work but you have to know what your doing and shake it right after it cooks, it colonizes very fast compared to hulled... dont think im recomending using it over hulled or anything... but this is just from afoaf experience when some was lying around... he mixed it with rye and it worked very well... but there is clumping if you dont break it up right after cooking and only cook it for 55 mins...

I pay 8 dollars for 50 pounds of millet at a feed store.
It works SO WELL as flour in PF jars, too.
Just grind it in a mill....

it works good if you dont grind it too and you dont have to use GD vermiculite.

2/3 hulled millet
1/3 rolled rye grain
Sterilized in a stock pot
Inoculated with 3 cc taz on 4/14/02

It wont shake but looks to be a promising cake.....
