bulk substrate recipe
    #6053652 - 09/12/06 02:25 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

i have decided to try and spawn some fully colonized WBS jars i have to a bulk substrate. i bought a huge bag of cow poo, some coir, peatmoss, calcium carbonate and gypsum. I was wondering what a good recipe is for a bulk substrate. for instance, how many parts poo do i need to mix with coir to create an optimum fruiting substrate?

id do about 30/70 Poo to coir. save the peat moss, calcium carbonate, and gypsum for your casing mix.

I would go half and half with the manure/coir. Lay the cow manure out in the sun for a few days so the ammonia can flash off before using. I would also use five to ten percent gypsum in the compost mix, as well as up to five percent calcium carbonate if you have it, or half a teaspoon of hydrated lime per cup of manure/coir. The mixture will have a PH of around 5, so you want to add something to buffer it.
