Yield question
    #6027664 - 09/04/06 10:07 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Just wondering how you can get bigger yields out of a PF jar without doing a casing... one of my jars first flush was only 4 palm sized mushrooms, another one only has like 3 comin out? Is it possible they are just too dry?... thanx in advance

dunking before each flush including the first is paramout. rolling in verm or double-end casing with verm and then lightly misting said verm every now and then throughout fruiting so that it stays moist. the verm will encourage more pins but even still there's only so much a flush can produce.

thats about it... moisture is critical to yields but a cake is a cake and can only go so far even when you provide as much moisture as possible to it. keep your fruiting parameters (humidity and FAE) optimal and they'll do all they can for you.

so misting the cakes every now and then during the fruit too will help?

yes. it helps a little. assuming you've rolled or DE cased the cakes in verm... when you mist the goal is to keep the verm moist, and the mycelium network can suck the moisture out of the verm to put it to use, but spraying "bare" cakes directly isn't going to really benefit.

after my first flush of one of my cakes, i dunked it for 12 hours then took it out and dabbed it with a paper towel to get the excess water off then put it back in the terrarium. Was i supposed to roll it in dry verm after i dunked it?...

its not neccesary but it helps. as he was saying the verm helps sort of hold in the moisture. roll in dry verm then spary till moist. but it will fruit without the verm just with a dunk jsut not as well

you could add a lil hpoo to the cakes, and follow the tips everyone else posted before me, and you would probably be impressed.
