The shaggy parasol Lepiota rachodes or Macrolepiota rachodes (whatever they fuckin call it nowadays ) stains reddish.

Good stuff! Ate some just the other day

You may have dangerous Lepiotas that bruise red in the States but I'm just going on my European knowledge

Macrolepiota procera doesn't bruise, m. rachodes bruises somewhat yellowish to reddish. Both species are perfectly edible and much sought after!

Another thought is Lepiota americana, which bruises the most reddish among the large Lepiotas.

Be sure the caps expand to 4 inches or so.

Amatoxin, they're now officially Chlorophyllum rachodes. They were moved there by Else Vellinga after examination of DNA data.

Happy mushrooming!

Looks like Lepiota besseyi which is very similar to L. americana. Both are usually found on wood chips.
