Which mushroom strain grows heavy, dense, little shrinkage when dried?
    #6004865 - 08/28/06 02:45 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

For the last 5 harvests of different mushroom strains (lipi yai, dutch mex king, palenque, gulf coast, and blue meanie), every strain tends to shrink to the extreme and weigh 12-16 times less then its wet weight. Does anyone know a strain that grows really heavy dense mushrooms with little shrinkage? I think I'm going to try the Texas strain since people say it doesn't shrink to the extreme. Does anyone have any other strain advice?

Since mushrooms are 90% water... well. Shrinkage is just what happens, Lol.

I've heard that Texans have super dense fruits and and not much water so they shrink a lot less. Might want to look into them.

EXACTLY! all cubensis were created equally when it comes to water content.

I've actually been growing a lot of strains and comparing them directly to the Texans, and I have had little success duplicating how thick they come out. Even some of my bulk 30-35 gram B+ shrooms have gone unnoticed when compared to Texans.

Why not spawn to manure, and then dunk the bulk substrate before pinning?

90g wet of Penis Envy once dried to 14g (cracker-dry). It's been a long time since math class, but that's a little more than 10% dry weight.

B+ 10 grams wet = out to about .75 Cracker Dry....so to get 1/8 you would need to eat 45 wet grams.... i have tested this OUT ALOOOOOT  :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2:

Texas barely shrink at all, don't get me wrong they still lose allot of weight but size wise they don't lose very much at all,I have grown Texas more than any other strain and they never shrink much at all :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:  :dancingshroom:
