Overcooked Jars
    #596584 - 04/02/02 01:44 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

Last night I attemped to sterilize 9 half pint jars in an outdoor grill/smoker.  There is no doubt that I succeeded. However, I also left them on until the coals burnt out (For reasons that make sense to nobody, including myself), at which point they were rather darker than when they had started. To the point of near blackness at the very bottoms. I attempted to open one in dismay, to discover the rubber had sealed very well to the glass.

My question is: Is there any hope for this substrate? Would higher carbon content damage myco growth? Or might they be useable if I simply added extra water?

This is my third attempt at shroom growing, and I only have one spore syringe left. If there is no hope in these jars, I plan on simply purchasing some myco grow bags or something similar... Thanks. :smile:

Whaaaaaaa?

"There is no doubt that I succeeded."

I agree. You succeeded in producing dried out, possibly burnt substrate that probably isn't sterile.

Read this---------> http://www.shroomery.org/faq

Then read it again. Then once more.

Good luck.
