help please! green spots? eat or not?
    #5904648 - 07/27/06 08:52 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I picked some yesterday and I heard you could dry them out in a dresser drawer. So i put them in, and today they have weird green spots on the stems and the caps are turning blackish.. they are ps. cubensis I'm sure.. picked out of a field in southeast texas, anyone know if that is common or are they contaminated? there is a little bit of white lookin film on the some of the caps too... but not much. I'm using damprid from now on.

I wouldn't want to eat anything that has contams growing on it.. just as I wouldn't eat food products if they were stale/rotting.

There probably isn't enough air exchange/flow in a closed dresser drawer.

I usually dry mushrooms by a fan or place that gets a good flow of air. Even hanging them by a thin piece of string in my closet has worked well.

sounds like your shrooms started to rot...i don't see how merely putting them in your dresser would dry them. just pick up some desiccant at whal-mhart, its pretty cheap and works every time.

Depends on what you mean by safe. You would probably have nausea/cramps/diarhea. Really sucks when reality is melting all around you.

green spots and some rotting....

well, you have two roads you can take as far as I see it.
and this is my opinion, and I don't suggest even you follow my advice here:

one:
throw them away and learn a lesson.

two:
boil them in some tea and drink the tea.
