Casing Yeild Tipping Point?
    #583425 - 03/19/02 02:07 PM (22 years, 14 days ago)

I am wondering if there is an optimal size casing. I have only tried casings of up to 5, 1/2 pint, jars worth each. I noticed on Hawk's site that his casings are big. Is there a large advantage to say having one large casing in my tub rather than 6 smaller ones? Is the mycelium network more efficient? Will my yeilds and flush density be greater? I am interested in what has worked for you. Thanks

Dax.

the benefit of having a larger casing is that you can get large fruit. The advantage of having a bunch of small casings is that if you lose one casing, you don't lose everything. Efficiency is environment dependent. Larger casings produce more CO2 and require more air exchange than a smaller casing. If a large casing and small casing are clones of eachother and are under optimal conditions, they can theoretically have the same efficiency.

So the reason that my EQs and PRs are only about 2.5 inches tall and have 1/4 inch wide stems is because my casings are small? Should I try whole tub sized casings? How many jars worth do you normally put in yours? I have a humidifier hooked up to my tubs via tubing that runs 6 times a day, so I think my humidity and air exchange are very good. Is there a way to measure CO2?

Go to the Supermarket and get Alum Bread pans or Alum Meatloaf pans.
They are the perfect size.
