Cyanescens Casing Layer?
    #5814101 - 07/02/06 11:14 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Do wood lovers need or benefit from a casing layer? Or do they fruit better right off the wood?

Are you growing flying saucers?

No. Aren't flying saucers p. azurescens? I just haven't found any info about wood lovers and a casing. Except this page: Psilocybe azurescens indoor cultivation

It has a comment about the mushroom not liking the casing layer. No other teks have pictures. Other places have shown the substrate covered with leaves or dirt with grass growing in it for outside.

I guess the real questions are will they fruit off of the wood chips? Will they fruit from a casing (what kind)? And which does best?

Right, my mistake, those are Azurescens.

Wish I could help out, but I haven't ever grown any wood-lovers. Talk to one of the moderators. They know everything... Or, at least, if they don't know something, they know where to find it.

IME woodlovers benefit little from a casing layer so I really wouldn't worry too much about it. I have grown Ps. cyans only once indoors and it flushed poorly and I didn't use a casing layer. From all the prolific woodloving flushes (pics) I don't recall ever seeing any casing layers at all.

I didn't think so. The only pics of p. cyans I've seen were outdoor. I've seen one pic of Azures grown indoors but it had a casing. It didn't flush well. Look here: http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/25150

On one hand, Most people say not to case it. After all they fruit off of mulched beds with no problem. On the other hand, most pics I see I can't see wood, only leaves, pants and soil around the fruit. Look here: http://www.fungifun.org/English/Gallery?...ize=700&start=9

Perhaps a casing of leaves would provide a nice, moist micro climate?

look at average temperature in locations where they fruit.
ie. washington state or wherever for the months of fruiting, usually septemper. and also average humidity. that is if no one knows.
just a thought bro.
