For 10 cents a message I don't answer a lot of them. Some of them I will reply with "Why don't you fucking call me." Personally, I think it is for high school girls and people held captive and cannot make any noise.
I think I am officially hooked to the shroomery now. I have been browsing for about two hours or so. Lots of good stuff in the archives, I searched and learned some new information.

I remember when I first got a cell phone, I had 2 months of text messages free. I was going nuts with them.

It does suck to have high prices on texting. I use a Verizon pre-paid plan, so text messages cost me somewhere between 10 and 20 cents.
What pisses me off is that before I realized just how expensive it was, I'd text people when I just wanted to ask a single, short question, like if there was a party.
People got used to text-communication, so for a while they'd just text me. That ate up my minutes FAST.
Now I sometimes just leave my phone off.
By the way... who actually found that Yoda blotter art on Ebay? I love it to no end, I was going to buy it, actually... but I figured it would be unwise, as I'd allready bought lab equipment from ebay. Suspicious combination.

I habitually text people, but at a dime a pop, your getting ass-raped.
There are many people who I need to communicate with, but dont actually want to talk too. Texts keep me from having to verbally deal with this person, while getting the knowledge I need from them. Perfect invention, imho.

I'm an illicit chemist, and a cultivator of mushrooms. I frequently carry three strikes in my backpack to parties... I sort of have to take it for granted.
Besides, ebay's idea of "suspicious" is so broad that most of their "suspicious" customers have probably never even seen drugs before.
"big brother" technically isn't watching, but ebay pays people to watch, people who send big brother a memo so they know where to have the search warrant served

I know 10 cents is too steep. I stick to the voice to voice part of cell phone conversation. I would pay a small free for AIM on my phone, but I don't like to text too much.
Its so hard to avoid people these days. Something, I do from time to time.
Did you get my voice mail?
I called you? Of course my phone will tell me if I missed a call.
Did you get that message I sent you on AIM?
I wrote you a letter, did you get that? No, the mail man is a fucking drunk.
I sent smoke signals, did you see them?
I love technology but damn I wanna be left alone sometime.

I pretty much get shafted by my plan. I really need to switch to a better one.
For actual calls, I pay a 25¢ connecting fee per-call, and then 10¢ a minute on top of that.
a three-minute call that would cost me 50¢ on a payphone costs me 55¢ on my cellphone.
Hell, calling someone who is giving me a ride just to ask (in under 30 seconds) "are you on your way?" ... "Yes? good, bye" still costs me 35¢.
Every day I have classes at college I average 2 calls of about 2 to 3 minutes, and on weekends to communicate for parties it's usually 3 to 4 calls a day for about 1-2 minutes.
And, if I use my cellphone to check the voicemail on the cellphone, there's a fee for that.
All of this on top of HUGELY overpriced texting fees.
I tend to exhaust my $15-per-month well before the month ends.

Text messaging is awesome, as is VoiceSMS. I like being able to send a SMS that has, say, directions or a phone number or something. When I meet someone and get their (her!) number, I send a TM with my number and my name, that way it's stored on their (her!) phone.

I hated my mobile, it was going off all the time so i got rid of it.
Texts take me ages to write out, and it's not really a skill i want to develop anymore.
When im out i'm doing something so i don't 'need' to be talking to people, i'll call them when i get back home.
Its just another alternate reality distraction device for those who get too involved.

Anyone got any good text message jokes?
Sometimes i amuse myself in the pub by texting people saying "Don't look up!" and then watching them get paranoid and gawp at the ceiling
