Squat candle/primitive camp cooking

Alright, so im off for a couple months to live amongst pickers primitively out of my tent..
Ive got a couple msr backpacking stoves but am hardly interested in using them (high maintenence).. So i made a squat candle (wax, and cardboard in a can..) and it burns really hot and never runs out of fuel, i think ill make another tonite.
I was thinking 2 candles under a small slightly elevated grill would be an alright method of cooking..
Of course a campfire works equally aswell..
Just wondering if anyone had any tips, suggestions, or recipes to throw out. Ive got a small cookset, and a slightly bigger pot..

pretty much ... put an X of cardboard in a wide can, and put wax shavings tightly all around it, mixxed with dryer lint or lots of rolled up paper balls..

Another method is to roll up a piece of cardboard and put it in a can, so that it is level with the top of the can. Then pour hot wax into the can. (Those old single serving pudding cans work best)
That shit will burn forever.

soups go real well for these types of stoves, basically anything that doesn't require you to cook all the way through it will taste the best. While you can cook meat it requires a lot of attention or for you to steam/baste it in something to keep moist and from burning.

Any suggestions for suspending a pot/pan above the candle as not to smother it?

just poke two holes in the pot (empty metal coffee cans are great for this) and find some sticks. Put the sticks at an angle in the ground and insert the top part into the hole. This will suspend you can just fine above the flame. Make sure to use thick enough sticks to support the weight and heat of the can. If you don't want to use sticks you can find some metal poles and bend the ends into hooks and use them
