The most common lawn Conocybe, Conocybe Lactea ,is not known to be poisonous. The deadly conocybe, Conocybe filaris, is less commonly found and usually associated with wood. Deadly Conocybes can be easily distinguished from their boring cousins by the presence of an annular ring. I have found ringed conocybes growing from logs and I have found them (probably a different species) growing from hay bails. I have never found a deadly Conocybe in a lawn. Though it is possible that C. filaris could pop up in a lawn, this would be a rare occurrence. The vast majority of lawn Conocybes are C. lactea. And though it should not be eaten, the very common C. lactea is not known to be poisonous.
