could i use Perlite and maricle grow plant food inplace of clay pelettes and special nutes and do i HAVE to have an air pump?

Depends on the system you wanna use but I wouldn't use just perlite for any.

perlite will destroy your pumps. regardles of what system you use. well i forgot the rest of your questrion and if i go back it erases what i wrote. so what can i do?

oh yeah miracle grow is a bad idea. beyond the acidity it will just burn your plants to shit. if you use it in minimal quanities your herb will still taste dirty. about the air pump it may help but you wont notice the difference if your temps arnt high and you change your resivor when needed.

well in my experience they are good for lettuce(nft). i know millions will disagree but i dont like roots hanging without a spray.

they dont seel it in any of our small town stores, ill be fine hydros not the best for me anyways

you can easily run a hydro system without having to use an air pump or an ebb and flow table. You just have to make up a soilless mix of coco coir and peat and hand water them. I believe this is the method that hanky uses with his plants and he sees some good results from it.
