repeated contamination

after 5 or 6 seperate attempts using 3 different LC's 95% of my BRF cakes have had varying amounts of the following contam visible after only 12hrs. it's bright pink and makes the cakes stink like hell

this one was 48hrs after inoculation when the photos were taken.

i only sterilize by steaming in a large pot but did a control and steamed 4 jars then left them for 3 days and NO signs of contam.

if anyone could help me shed some light on this mongrel contam and how to try and avoid it. i flame sterilize after every inoculation site and dont know how to be any more sterile than i have been.

i'm at my wit's end! :sad:

Try a new source of spores and invest in a pressure cooker.

It's your LC. Try injecting the spores directly into your brf. If it contaminates then, you know your prints/syringe are contaminated. Ya gotta admit though, lipstick mold is kinda pretty.

yes pc does make a huge difference, also try not to sniff any contams,,,some are really bad/ check out the lc as rr mentioned too.

yeh if i weren't so pissed off by the site of it i guess it would be pretty. :rolleyes:

i'm now out of spores but if i can get some more i'll try prep'ing a spore syring like u suggested RR.
i've just read a couple of old posts were people left lipstick mold contam'd cakes and the myc took back over and killed it. my latest set of cakes have begun to colonise so i think i might let them go for a while and see how they end up. i have no uncontam'd cakes i risk infecting so i figure i have nothing to lose.

its a shame lipstick mold isn't psychedelic cause i've got a shitload of it.. ;(
