TiT Question
    #5733367 - 06/10/06 07:14 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I'm employing two 66qt Sterilite tubs in my TiT incubator setup. The outsides are being painted to keep light out.

Do I need to place my spawn into the tub directly, right against the sides of the tub, or can I place the WBS+hpoo into individual containers and put those containers in the TiT?

I'm asking because the TiT is a "fire and forget" setup. If I put the substrate directly into the tub, any condensation will hit the sides of the container and fall back down into the substrate. If I use individual containers, that won't happen at all. Moisture will form on the ceiling and walls of the Sterilite and likely wind up pooling outside the containers holding the WBS+hpoo.

Thoughts?

no you dont have to put the spawn jars against the side but you can if you want

yes put the sub in trays and cover it, bulk subs shouldnt be incubated

Depends on how you want to fruit your colonized spawn. If you want to fruit it directly in the TiT, then i would lay it all on the bottom of the tub and let it colonize, then put those little paper circles (on a lot of the monotub teks) then casing mixture...

HOWEVER, if you didnt want to fruit directly from the tub (has its advantages, although the shrooms can get "too big" for businesss) you could colonize the compost in individual containers\bags\jars (i dont reccomend jars, unless you have a bad contam problem, i would go with zip-tied oven bags, or just put the compost\spawn mix directly into individual breadpans to colonize there for casing later) that are placed IN the tupperware, then taken out when ready and put into invidual casings, or the like... Then, you should be able to line the bottom of your tupperware with breadpan casings...

Hope this helps!

Psychoslut writes:

... How is my hpoo going to colonize if I don't incubate it?

On the container question, I'm still pretty confused. It won't be a problem if I put my WBS/hpoo mix into large roasting tins to incubate, then case, then patch, then move to my TiT for fruiting? I won't have a lack of moisture problem with water winding up outside the pan?

And TiT is supposed to be a fire-and-forget method. Am I violating that rule by only placing the casing into the TiT to fruit?

I did a search for TiT setups but the search function came up with very little. Anyone know of a good tek?

H/poo creates it's own heat for colonization.

If you incubate it, you will cook it to death.

TiT is an incubator, not a fruiting chamber.

If I am correct about phychoslut`s bulk comment it means they generaly make thier own heat, so incubator is not needed. I think thats what was ment

Hm. Ok. So when I mix my hpoo and WBS, what temps should I keep the containers at so as to not cook the mix?

Hmmm. Ok. Then it looks like I'm going the aluminum tin route. I'll have much better control over temps in my Igloo cooler.

I think very, very soon I'm going to spring for one of these.
