I'd try a different distro - mandriva is kinda the suck. try the new ubuntu or fedora releases.

depends on your distro. most distros do come with burning applications like k3b. and for ripping, I use crip - it's a commandline ripper.

are you using the drive for media storage? you can read but not write to NTFS. I believe there might be ways to write to NTFS, but they're not really practical or stable. You might as well backup your files and reformat.

I used to have that problem with Ubuntu (the older version)

But this new 6.06 -- Dapper Drake.. kicks ass.  It recognized my card immediately :yesnod:

Mandrake 10 should support anything with an Atmel AT76C503A chip without any additional drivers or kernel magic. Doesn't mean it's going to be trouble free though.  :mad2:

There should definitely be something to rip CDs, isn't that what most people use Linux for? It depends what packages were selected when the original install was done, but look out for KAudioCreator (which is part of Konqueror/KDE) or grip (which is part of Gnome). There are lots of you can download and try once you get connected.

You can use it read only without problem (instructions  here) but writing to NTFS partitions is usually considered dangerous. There are addons to let you do it but you'd be better off repartitioning it to either a native Linux type or FAT32 if you want to keep using it on Windows machines as well.
