sealing foil lids during incubation

i just recently created my first successfully inoculated set of jars using the PF (BRF) tek from fungifun. i have noticed larger amounts of condensation on the inside of the glass since i began incubation, and i read somewhere that it should be fine as long as it is not pooling at the base of the jar. i put rubber bands around the tops of some of these jars (tin foil lids) as a precaution for keeping out contaminants. would it be advisable for me to remove these to allow some air and/or water vapor exchange? thus far i have seen little difference between the rubber banded and non-rubber banded jars, but i really dont wanna mess up another batch over something so trivial. thank you.Quote:

Well, you want to allow air exchange. I am not familiar with those jars (foil lids anyway), but you should have the holes for inoculation and either a dry vermiculite layer, polyfil, or a tyvek filter to work as a contam barrier. You can flip the jar over at 75% colonization to force air exchange (speeds up the process). But don't take the lid off.

You should be fine without sealing your foil lids as long as you have the dry verm layer on top. I recently unsealed my foil lids and can see mycelium growth noticably faster. Good luck

I took the tops off of mine and they spend up alittle as well, but keep in mind you are chancing the more possible contams, the vermiculite should be enough of a barrier but crap happens, I use sporetape over the holes in the lids when they are on it, alows for air and just an extra barrier, it up to the grower on what you do.

Remove the foil. That's why the vermiculite barrier is in place. If you must, cover the tops with rubber-banded coffee filters to deter dust from settling on top.
