bad trips in the 60's
    #5670400 - 05/24/06 09:38 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

before i go on with this post i know some on here think there is no such thing as a bad trip.. but for this post to get any replies id like to introduce my persective that there ARE indeed good and bad trips but just because a trip is "bad" doesnt mean you cant gain from it..

considering this, where do you guys think the bad trip fear came from.. i see a lot of posts around shroomery about people showing their concerns for possible bad trips

however after seeing various documentaries (such as the grateful dead movie) it seems that people used to take psychedelics (mainly lsd) in stride and would casually consume multiple hits and enjoy themselves

it cant be due to weaker hits because hits back then were a lot stronger apparently than those of today

anyone have any idea as to where the paranoia of tripping badly came from??

(or maybe im completely wrong and people tripped worse in the 60's )

all replies are welcome

What about if the guy jumps off a building and dies?

Is that a good trip?

That's a death, not just a bad trip.

more people tripped in the 60s so they didn't have to feel isolated from society. they probabl had more confidence to indulge in tripping just like we have confidence in drinking beers but someone in a place where beer is illegal might worry about how beer affects them.

(that's really stretching it but you see what i mean)

I'm the kind of person that thinks you can learn a lot from bad trips....but I think I've had just some flat out nasty trips where I didn't learn anything.

I think people enjoyed thier trips more in the 60's because acid was more potent per dose.
And it was the thing to do back then... :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :sun:

lots of people freaked out in the 60's. The concept of the "Bad trip" comes from that era. The "bad acid" at Woodstock is just one example.

I think there were just as many bad trips in the 60's as there are now. It's just now they get blown out of proportion and publicized more when someone flips out.

That may have been actually been bad acid-as in it was a potent compound from the DOx family in pill form.

An interesting theory of mine is this. In the 60s, LSD wasn't illegal for the majority of time during that era. LSD was a legal compound that could be purchased from chemical vendors and was widely used by academics and scientists who saw it as a miracle drug that allowed for exploration of the mind and a deeper understanding of the subconscious. Thus, when people took LSD, they didn't associate what they were doing with an illegal drug manufactured in a clandestine manner. They also didn't associate their behavior with criminal activity, such that could land them in prison. People didn't worry so much about what they were doing and had less apprehension going into the experience, thus they were less likely to have an overall negative experience.

By going into a trip being worried about getting caught by the police or other authorities for commiting a crime, or by questioning the origins of your drug and being afraid that you may have gotten "bad acid", a thought that people seem to hold as creed.

Just my $.02

I think the paranoia is probably in part, due to things like D.A.R.E. They tell the kids ridiculous things like you think you can fly on lsd, and that your gonna see monsters everywhere or something stupid like that.
