Tempature question
    #5668484 - 05/24/06 12:03 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

I am still kinda a newbie, and I have had several successful flushes through casing. My latest batch hasn't started doing anything. Not even overlay. It has been cased over a week now. The only real thing that seems to me is a problems is the temperature. In the winter we burn wood, so it maintains a a good temperature. Now that it is not winter the tempter averages around 65 degrees. Does it just take longer in a colder environment? Guess just looking for tips or advice or thoughts.
Thank you kindly for the advice
Thanks :mushroom2:

do you have any mycelium coming up through the top of your casing layer?

I always like fruiting temps to be in the 73 to 76 degree F. range.

Colder and it takes longer.

Higher temps are better than colder temps in my experience...
I have fruited casings in the 80's to 90's degree F. range during the summer.

I don't have any mycelium pocking through the casing later. I am thinking it the temperature, that is the only thing different. I am going to have to work on this. How do you keep yours so warm?

I'm just lucky...

my grow room is in my furnace room.

it stays between 73 to 76 degrees F. in there all year round.

during the winter from the furnace.

during the summer it just stays a nice 73 to 76 degrees F. on its own.

My upstairs of my house is another story...

it gets in the 80's and 90's in the summer time.

last summer I had some stuff upstairs and it grew just fine in the warmer weather.

If you have a PS2 and a cool box your sorted.
My incubator consists of a cool box laying on its side with my PS2 standing up in it. The lid is slantly put against the top to allow heat to escape otherwise it gets up in the 30*C range. I have a thermometer hanging down in the cool box which stays at a steady 25*C. Does the job and if you wanna save a few bucks then try it out

I am trying an experiment by incubating my jars inside my computer. I have just enough room for 2 1/2 pint jars. And it seems that the temperature in my computer is pretty consistent as I have heat being generated by everything inside, but fans to consistently keep it moving. We shall see how this works out!

You should remove your jars from your computer and put them in a shoe box on top of the computer.

colonizing jars do not need fresh air exchange.

You're promoting your chance for failure.
