wbs clumping
    #5633002 - 05/15/06 02:52 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Ok so ive used whole grain popcorn a few times, but this time im using WBS for the first time. Ive already pc'd 8 pint jars about 3/4 full of wbs at 15psi. 4 of them for 90 minutes and 4 of them 4 60 minutes but in all 8 jars about 70% of the substrate has clumped togethter. Not 1 big clump but 2 or 3 smaller clumps. I shook he hell out of them and they don't really want to break up. If i innouclate them with a syring, will they still colonize or will the clumpiing be a problem. I've tried everyting i could think of but i can't seem to find a way to stop this from happening. Any feedback?

Rinse them very well after simmering and/or soaking.

I had the same problem with birdseed. I inoculated anyway. It took the jars almost 1 month to colonize

Shake your jars immediately after the pressure drops in your PC, while the jars are still hot. Other than that, they shouldn't be clumping if you are rinsing and draining them properly.
