    #562665 - 02/25/02 02:13 PM (22 years, 27 days ago)

Hey . .i did my first 12 jars! I boiled them though. Im not sure if the substate is too dry though and if it is can i wet the filter that is over the top of the jar to moisten it?

youre using filter disks on 1st jar attempt? i wouldnt recommend it...
theres no way for you to efficiently check the moisture in there. thats why youre so careful when measuring it out and must keep it fairly sealed up. incubating in an enclosed incubator will keep moisture loss to a minimum. if you feel liek theyre too dry try injecting more sterile water in ther (5-10cc) but its probably not worth the effort/time.

no. wetting the filter disk will attract contams and they will grow through your disk easily. adding water rarely works anyway; make some more jars with lids on them with the 4 hole setup and put filter disks on top of teh lid under the retaining band. this will at least attempt to keep your moisture in.

what type of substrate did you use..I'm assuming brf and verm because you boiled it...if so then I think you are ok...brf and verm isnt shakable really..its keeps the form of the jar thats why its called a cake....if you followed the PF Tek to the letter I think you'll be ok

ooh ok . . .well i used rye flour but the mmgm guide says its suitable to substitute with. I guess ill just wait and see (n its not so much that it isnt shakeable but it seems like inside its cooked or really hard) mayb in a day or two i can get my cam workin to post pics!
