Casing Humidity
    #5540023 - 04/21/06 03:03 AM (17 years, 11 months ago)

Everywhere I have read, a humidity of 95-100% is ideal for all stages up to and including pinning, but at fruiting, the humidity is supposedly ideal at 85-90%. What is the reasoning behind this change in humidity?

See, in my fruiting chamber I use a few cups of perlite, which beforehand was submerged in water and allowed to strain for a minute. This method gaurantees me a 100% humidty in the fruiting chamber when all seams are sealed, which they are. Thing is, to acheive a 90% humidity is alot harder for me and I was wondering how it is that people achieve this. Couldn't I in theory have my fruiting chamber at 100% RH and forego the misting (or atleast only minimal, like after flushes)? What are the negatives of not having 90% RH and what are the negatives of having RH at 100% during fruiting?

Transpiration. This is what helps cell division and helps keep contams a bay. You never really want 100% RH IME, you always want a little transpiration (evaporation) although with automated systems you can still achieve both otherwise 98% tops. As far as fruiting I find depending on your particular setup adjusting RH just past the point where caps split IME 85-92%.
